What Is Copyright On Internet
The internet is a wide-open source of information, communication and entertainment and most people believe that everything and anything go in cyberspace. Sometimes when internet users are looking for knowledge or entertainment in the internet, they cross over hidden line. Many internet users do not have appropriate knowledge on internet copyright and they unintentionally break the copyright laws that oversee the internet. There are many myths that have made people to believe that copyright laws do not apply to the internet. However, you have to be aware that copyright laws are in place in today's cyberspace.
One of the major mistakes that people make is that they have been made top believe that if a work has no copyright notice, it is not copyrighted. Many people believe that if a work has no copyright symbol or words they are free to take, use or post work on the internet. Most of the works that are available in the internet are available for public use so you may be thinking that you can take the work and use it without giving credit to the owner. Even though the work in the internet is for public use, the author of the work must have explicitly offered it to the public domain. If there is work that has been offered by the author and states so, anybody who comes across it can use, copy or take without giving credit to the author. However, it is always advisable to contact the author and ask for permission before using the work even if it is labeled "for public domain". Doing this will thus help you to avoid costly legal matters and it is a way of appreciating the work of the author.

If you are an internet user, you cannot scan material from periodicals and send them on the internet. Being an internet user, you do not have permission to transfer graphics or works and post them on another website on the internet without asking for permission from the owner. You need to understand that technically no one is allowed to post electronic mail wholly. An internet user can only refer to a statement in the electronic mail in the same way he does on any research paper. These acts can lead one to be prosecuted in a civil court because copyright infringement is a civil law. The owner of the copyrighted work can sue you for the damages to his or her work and if found guilty you will be in for severe punishment.
The internet copyright laws are frightening but there is nothing or less that can be done about the violation because they occur every day. Internet copyright is a new region where lawyers and judges have ventured into and in order to be safe from this frightening law you should ask for permission from the owner to use his or her work. Because the internet is becoming one of the main sources of information, more and more people find themselves in the wrong hands by infringing the internet copyright laws.
