In the recent years, Internet has been in the talk for all plagiarism and violation of intellectual rights issues. Though it is a public domain, you are not entitled to use any information or material as and when you please.A lot of information available on the Internet is misused or used without the permission of the creator. The advent of the internet has increased piracy issues to a great extent.

To put simply, copyright means a legal way of protecting your creative and professional work wherein you have the sole right to change, redo, print, publish or distribute your work. It identifies you as the originator or owner of the material and thus protects your material. It usually lasts 50 years after the death of the author of the material.

If you make a link to a copyrighted page it is not against the law since it is not considered a violation. However, there is a possibility that the owner of the link does not give you the permission to make a link.

You cannot copyright a title or a name or a logo. Moreover, you can use limited parts of a copyrighted article, e-book or report. Nonetheless, the work cannot be claimed as your original. The source has to be mentioned.

In the federal court, a civil lawsuit can be filed to get an order asking the person concerned to cease the usage of the material. You can hire an attorney if you think your material is being used illegally for profitable gains - adn try to either win the case or get a royal lawsuit settlement your way.

In case you have used somebody's copyright material unknowingly, you can just a

pologize and withdraw the material since lawsuit is an expensive affair and not many want to approach it. So just take it off and everything will be fine.

The Internet makes it very difficult to pose copyright laws because the law can be as unknowingly broken as it is knowingly. Therefore, how can the illegality come to a stop? Some of the preventive measures for the same include:

- Making people aware of copyright laws. Letting them know that just because the information is there does not mean it cannot be used without authorization. Making clear the legal penalties for breaching the copyright laws.

- Getting hold of the major culprits engaging in copyright infringement. Most of the time, it works as a network. Track it down will help the violation to subside.

- Devising legally viable ways of accessing information on the Internet.

- Encouraging people to give credit to the owners of the material just like they would like to be given for their work.

- Putting a warning and instruction commentary on the site itself.

A copyright notice does not always need to be present in case of the material in U.S. A tangible material created be it music, image, text etc. it gets copyrighted automatically. Anyone has the liberty to use the copyright symbol for their original production.

It is obvious that where so much information is available and accessible, violation in some form or the other is bound to occur. To reduce the violation and to ensure the security and safety of the product of yours as well as others creation should be the priority.
